Media Literacy in a Fake News World

Tom Johnson

Indigo Moor

What constitutes facts and truth in today's digital media world? How do we know what we think we know and how can that knowledge be verified? In this session, Tom Johnson will put the challenge of fake news in perspective: its magnitude, the sources and its impact on global institutions and individuals.

Are there solutions to this global evil? Fortunately, yes. There are questions you can ask, there are online tools you can use to check, in real time, things like those pictures of sharks swimming down flooded freeways. There are search engines to compare what you think you read or heard v. what was really said. Bring your laptop and we'll have some fun throwing balls at the "debunking tank".
